Thinking Ahead: Preparation & Reuse Portable A/C

Meet the Whynter Portable Air Conditioner & Dehumidifier which is replacing my HVAC system that was struck by lightening. If you lose air conditioning you might not get it replaced quickly and this may be an option you want to look into.

It’s 86 in Austin today; a bit hot. Also, I experience hangry, and that is both hungry angry and hot angry so it is very important that I be cool and comfortable. Google was amazing and replaced our internet the very next day. However since the lightning strike was on a Saturday, the insurance is taking forever and by that I just mean at least a week.

Our particular air conditioner parts are not readily available so even if we get approved to go forward with the quote it would take a couple days for those to be delivered after the order is placed.

We did plan beyond just this acute situation. The A/C will get moved into the garage for our workout area and we’ll use it in the future as a backup option if anything happens again. Not that I wanted to have a backup option but having a cooler garage to work out in has been something I have wanted for years so this kind of enabled that. There are silver linings. I never got a window or ceiling unit because it was relatively expensive but this was more so, so that didn’t really end up being a valid reason in hindsight but this may be better since it’s more mobile than a window or ceiling unit so we can really target the air and the area. Again, good things came out of this situation and we’ve been blessed with a mild Texas spring.
