Mascara Wand Recycling

The Lash Lounge supports Wands for Wildlife

I am very excited to announce that one of Mueller’s own businesses, The Lash Lounge, is accepting old mascara wands for recycling in support of the Appalachian Wildlife Refuge’s Wands for Wildlife program at both its Mueller and West Lake Hills locations.

Wands for Wildlife takes clean old mascara and eyelash wands and uses them to remove fly eggs and larva from the fur of wild animals. The program specifically requests used wands to ensure it’s a recycling/reuse program and to provide materials with a second life. Information is available at https://www.appalachianwild.org/wands-for-wildlife.html.

Before dropping wands off at an Austin The Lash Lounge location, please wash wands in warm soapy water to remove residual mascara and let them dry completely. Residents can go in and hand their zippered bags to the front desk person.

The Lash Lounge (Austin – Mueller) opened in December 2019. They are located at 1911 Aldrich St., #140, Austin, Texas 78723 near the Alamo Drafthouse. The Lash Lounge’s services include eyelash extensions, lash & brow tinting, threading, lash lift perms, and permanent makeup. In addition to the mascara wand recycling they will now offer, the Austin locations compost; have green certified paper, cleaning and janitorial products; and reusable items for their services such as glass tinting jars and drinking vessels. Cotton threading string is biodegradable.

The owner, Noelle Boyle, and I are going to be contacting local Texas wildlife rescue groups to expand the Wands for Wildlife program. We’d like to reuse materials locally if there is interest and/or need. Noelle and I will keep you updated!
