Volunteers can help by making and maintaining collection spots like this at water spots and fishing sites.
Even throwing line in the trash can be dangerous as birds and other animals can savage it out of the landfill to eat it or make nests which will entangle the young so it needs cut down into 6″ segments 🗑️✂️. Bait and fishing shops also have the opportunity to host line collections. 🐟
On 50% of my walks at my neighborhood ponds I find fishing line. I have literally run into it since I’m short and it’s tangled in the trees.🌳 It is strung across paths and I’ve tripped.🧵It’s floating in the water 💦 and ground into the dirt🌱.

Don’t forget to keep in mind the practice of Leave No Trace, take out of a natural environment what you brought into it. So if you brought fishing line in and lures, etc., then take it back out with you.
