I’m on the mailing list for Ethical Society of Austin. I was so excited to see them have an adult coat drive to support LifeWorks when it was cold. The timing was with God.
I have a declutter client who was a collector. Name a category of items and he probably collected it. We pulled 35 jackets for this coat drive to donate to them. We put them on hangers, separated them by light or heavy weight, and then bagged them up in groups of 5-8. Having run several clothing drives and coat drives myself, my partner and I knew this was a lot of helpful prep for the group and the organizer said as much!
For your personal closet, I recommend you perhaps keep one of each type of coat you use (if you can afford them and have the space) per person/creature (dogs and cats wear coats too) if they go outside in the house. Here are a few examples
- light
- medium
- heavy
- rain
- dressy
We have 1-4 for the three of us and we no longer have dogs, not that they needed jackets but some dogs do need jackets or prefer them. I’ve seen cats with outfits as well. I’m pretty sure the neighbor pigs don’t wear clothes or shoes.
If you are interested in learning more about the Ethical Society of Austin, they will be partnering with Maureen to hold monthly Days of Service.
