Just ask around. My son’s old play masks are going to his drama teacher and these neck ties from a declutter client are going to the Art and Drama departments to share.

We finally received the two secondhand sewing machines Art had been asking for so they can sew or weave the ties. I don’t know what the kids will come up with. Then it’s always fun adding new-to-the-kids items to the dress up box.
This owner had four boxes of ties. So not only is it enough for two departments, but a third department at school will be able to reuse the containers. So many wins here!
Ask schools, day cares, Scouts, after school programs, if they need items you are looking to rehome. It’s not up to you to think how something can be used, it’s up to you to rethink and think outside the box to provide resources for others to come up with how to reuse something. One of my declutter clients is always asking how someone will use something we are donating to Austin Creative Reuse or an art program. I tell her, “I know some examples (and I share those), but it’s not up to you or me to pre-think crafts. That’s up to the artist to decide how they want to use something. We just provide them with the materials and divert items from the landfill.
Take good care of your things so they can be reused for many years to come.
