Replacement: Pyrex 233-PC 3qt Lid: Brownies

So it has been about 19 years and one of my plastic Pyrex lids finally had to move onto the next life. In this case it will be a demonstration item at my tabling as to what can happen to plastic as it ages.

This is not the lid in this post, but it’s a great example of what happens to plastic over time.

Again, this is about after 20 years and if we hand washed it more often, sometimes it goes in the top shelf of the dishwasher, maybe it would last longer.

The edges start to crack and break off.

The featured image is a “Pyrex 233-PC 3qt Lagoon Blue Replacement Food Storage Lid – Made in the USA.” I call it the brownie lid, or maybe cake lid if you make cakes. It’s a rectangular baking dish: 15.75″L x 9.75″W. I am so grateful Pyrex put the product number right on the lid in an easy to find place. I was able to type this into Amazon and immediately find it and order it.

I would typically prefer to order direct from the company (Pyrex) however I’m not paying shipping for one item. I don’t have a bunch of lids or parts I need to replace and I don’t need anymore storage containers. See the “You May Also Like” below for why. 🙂 If I was really proactive I’d try to get a neighborhood group order together but I don’t have the bandwidth for that. Maybe in the future since I always get good feedback on my lid and replacement posts.

I was trying to just power through this lid’s issue but I kept finding all the little bits of plastic edging broken off and on my floor. So I decided to order a new one. I wish there was a glass/silicone one available in this size like on other of their items, but there is not. I like the seal on the silicone lids better as well. If this plastic lid lasts me another 20 years though that’s a good investment.

If I didn’t use this all the time I would just keep the bottom as a baking dish but I literally use this all the time for muffins and to take things to church. So I need it “repaired” with a “replacement.” There are your two Rs for today. 🙂

How to process the pieces:

Recycle the old lid in your single-stream recycling.

Cut off the paper label and trash that from both the clear bag and the Amazon plastic mailer.

Recycle the plastic bags off the new lid and Amazon, without labels, at a Store Drop-off Station.
