$5.52 for all this at Austin Creative Reuse.
- Scissors × 2 ($1.00 ea.)
- Pencil sharpener $0.10
- Small legal pads × 2 ($0.25 ea)
- Index cards unopened $1.00
- Legal pads × 6 ($0.25 ea.)
- Purchase Subtotal$5.10
- Sales Tax (8.25%) $0.42
- Total $5.52
Vs. $22.79 from Target
- Scissors × 2 ($3.29 ea.)
- Pencil sharpener $0.55 and broke the first use hence my need to go to ACR.
- Small legal pads × 2 ($4.19 if you could get only two but smallest is 4-pack. I halved cost)
- Index cards unopened $O.75 (vs. $1)
- Legal pads × 6 ($8.98 for 6)
- Purchase Subtotal $21.05
- Sales Tax (8.25%) $1.74
- Total $22.79
- Prices were Target’s in-house brand Up & Up for the most part or the cheapest option I could find.
So $5.52 vs $22.79 to get the exact same thing which you can’t because Target doesn’t have the small legal pads in the same quantity. Everything from Austin Creative Reuse is pre-owned and by purchasing these items you keep them out of the landfill. As I mentioned, my original need or want to go to ACR was because the pencil sharpener I bought from Target broke the very first time I tried to use It. I confess that I bought a packaged brand new plastic pencil sharpener because I didn’t want to wait until ACR was open and it was so not worth it materially, ethically and cost-wise. I got a cheaper one that works better from ACR. My husband asked for a bunch of more legal pads and he’s now conscious of what is the most cost effective way to take notes: secondhand diverted paper versus computer and energy costs, so the fact that we saved these from the landfill was great. I wish I had taken a picture of the enormous tub of legal pads that are available and I will the next time I go but buying legal pads from ACR is definitely the way to go!
