Here we are acorn collecting for our new stuffy, Squirrely. He’s a gray squirrel from local shop Nature’s Treasures. Squirrely is a stuffed animal made from recycled bottles from Wild Republic.
Squirrely needed dinner and I wanted an outside activity for us to do together. I’m working on getting us outside more for our eyesight, vitamin D, to move, etc. I’m using a tracker from https://www.1000hoursoutside.com/ to help me visually see how it’s going and to remind us to do it. It’s on the fridge so the whole family can see. I did ask if Squirrely wanted to come outside with us but my son said he should stay in the car and get to know the other stuffies. <3
It was great to have a handled basket in the car to collect acorns, twigs and leaves. Sometimes I think I have too many baskets, even though it’s like 4, but then they always come in handy. We were using this basket for the stuffies that were in the car for our school drop-off and pick-up so they had to be dumped for our collecting. A tall handle is really helpful for collecting things, it’s probably why Easter baskets come with tall handles for egg hunting.
The basket also provided a focal point for some of the games we did at the playground. Start at the basket, go around the basket, etc. The concept of collecting acorns for our squirrel gave a focal point for our activity which was helpful.
