Shop Local: Black Pearl Books 01/16/25

I got a little @blackpearlbooks treat for myself. I’m so excited to get the last copy of The Serviceberry by Robin Wall Kimmerer! It’s the same author as Braiding Sweetgrass. If you don’t live in Austin, find your local bookstores and check their inventory or call them. Most bookstores have an online shop you can either check if it’s in stock or ask the store to order it for you. It’s not as fast as Amazon, but you’re supporting small and local businesses and keeping more money in your local economy. It’s been my experience that many small bookstores are owned by BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color), women, HUB (historically underutilized business) and SMBR (small and minority business resources) owners.

MLK Day is on Monday and I finally committed to buying some books about him. The staff at Black Pearl Books make excellent recommendations. Just go in and be like hey what about this topic? I went in with the definitely The Serviceberry thought and maybe a Dr. King book so I didn’t take my BPB reusable bag and five books later this happened…. I had also been eyeing The Bakery Dragon for my 7-year-old son and it was a massive hit! I highly recommend The Bakery Dragon for dragon, carb, bread, giving kiddos. My husband and I enjoyed it too, the dragon is a sweetie.

They also have a great selection of book related stickers, pins, books, all kinds of fun little gifts!
