Recycled Reads drop-off. RR is part of the Austin Public Library and all proceeds from sales go back to the library so I love to donate here. This place is especially helpful for large donations. If I had the inclination and time I would put little handfuls and all the Little Free Library in my neighborhood, but this is a lot that needed processed at one time and Recycled Reads is a great way for this material. Depending on the subject matter, I would also use the Inside Books Project.

Recycled Reads is closing December 2025. They can no longer afford their rent.
What to do next:
- Reduce the amount of books you buy new.
- Buy used, buy up Recycled Reads’ inventory if they have what you like.
- Better yet rent from/use your local public library.
- Donate to your local Little Free Library. If you don’t have any, consider starting one.
- Donate to the Inside Books Project in Austin instead of Recycled Reads. They are swamped, understaffed and closing in December.
- Donate kids books to your local children’s hospital.
- Ask your neighbors, family and friends where they donate books.
