A Bookcase for SafePlace Austin

We recently reorganized our office. I decided that I wanted to reduce the amount of books I had in the office and the house. I spent a lot of March going through our home again working towards moderation. There is now one adult bookcase, one son bookcase, and a small living room bookshelf. This is a big success for me as a book-lover. My husband doesn’t have many books in the house. His response to this process was, “Why aren’t we using the library?” Heehee.

It’s important to me to find the most in-need place to re-home items. We decided we wanted to support SAFE instead of trying to sell the bookcase or post it on our neighborhood Buy Nothing group.

The SAFE Alliance is a merger of Austin Children’s Shelter and SafePlace, both long-standing and respected human service agencies in Austin serving the survivors of child abuse, sexual assault and exploitation, and domestic violence.

…we rely on community in-kind donations to help us provide basic needs, clothing, and household items to assist survivors and their families. We could not do the work we do without your ongoing support – so, from all of us at SAFE, thank you!

Select furniture needs are listed on SAFE’s Wishlist page. I’m so glad they need bookcases and we could help with this. Anything we can do to help these survivors. The last time I re-homed a bookcase, we gave it to a local refugee assistance group which sadly is no longer in place. Check your local assistance groups for survivors, single parents, refugees/asylees, etc. to find out how you can assist them.
